You seem to be overlooking the option of buying the LS-30 and saving
about 1/2 the price of the LS-2000. Are you aware it's basically the
same scanner and software? One of the features you pay for by upgrading
to the LS-2000, multi-scanning, isn't necessary for scanning negatives.
The other feature of the LS-2000 over the LS-30 is 36 bit output. Here
again, if you have a color managed system, much of the benefit of this
is largely redundant as the 24 bit LS-30 scan imported into Photoshop on
a color managed system will be about 90% finished in terms of color and
tonal balance anyway. Other than these two features the two scanners
are identical in terms of scan quality.

This makes the LS-30 a relative bargain for people scanning negatives on
color managed systems. Nikonscan 2.5 does an absolutely superb job
correcting negatives on my color managed PC system.
