There's no problem getting decent colour from colour negs on the Polaroid
4000 - I am sitting here reading these msgs whilst scanning a bunch of
Fuji Superia 400 (still not exactly quick on an Athlon700+512Mb RAM).

I mostly use Vuescan for negs, sometimes Binuscan, as there is far less
work to do. This lot require just a quick manual tweak of levels (to the
16bit file from Vuescan), reduce bit depth to 8bit, spot out any dust,
USM, caption and save. However it took me weeks of trying to get to this,
and knowing which problems require a different approach. Improvements in
Vuescan and Insight have helped too.

IME most problems with negs have far more to do with software and /or
brain errors than the hardware itself. I rather think you probably could
have got good results with the Dualscan with perseverance to find a good
working method, and it's a bullet you are likely to have to bite whichever
scanner you choose. Some film and lighting combinations just seem tricky.
