Jari - I have heard from numerous sources that XP is prone to problems relating
to MIDI, but I have no personal experience of this.  I also think this may apply
to 2000.  Like David, I use Win98 and have had no MIDI problems at all (touch
wood!).

But make sure if you go for 98 that you get the full OEM disk of the updated
version Win98SE (Second Edition), and do a clean install (ie not an upgrade).
This is what I use - I have two soundcards and two external modules installed
and the software is so forgiving.  I can (if I am mad enough!) run two MIDI
programs and play different MIDI files simultaneously, either using the two
cards or even just using one.  The soundcard installations were buggy, though,
until I discovered the trick of doing it in Safe Mode.
