Clearly, Finale thinks the file has changed, even though you don't think
so.

Who is wrong? Finale, or you?

I can't say.

But it's that determination that answers the question whether or not the
prompt is unnecessary or not. If the file has, in fact, been changed,
then the prompt is essential. If it hasn't, then it is unnecessary.

That *you* think you haven't changed the file may or may not be relevant.

Perhaps if the prompt said "printer settings have changed since you last
changed the file" or "time field values have changed since you last
changed the file" and then "would you like to save?" then it would be
explaining to you *what* had changed so that you could make a decision.

However, programming that kind of thing could be pretty complicated.

Would it be better for such non-human changes to be saved automatically?

Or to have them not saved at all?

Or to have them saved only if you told them to by clicking a checkbox
"save print settings"?

In short, there is now enough information on the table to discuss how to
address the problem. Your original problem listing was simply not enough
information for someone who hadn't experienced the problem to understand.
