a friend recently brought up an interesting point: as far as he knew, no staging of 4'33 has ever been produced in the realm of dance or theatre.
all of the discussions i have witnessed of this work took place in a musical context, consisting predominantly of arguments regarding the [non-] musicality of the work. i could imagine a performance of the piece not "working" in at least one context: in performance art, 4'33 would not really be so radical.
has anyone ever witnessed non-"sound" interpretations of this piece? please give names of the artists and the context and space it was performed in if possible.
