Hi there,

I'd like to propose something to all the Finale community and composers/engravers.

I'm a French independent musician. A year ago, I realized it was pretty hard to get a good service to sell your CDs online. Therefore I decided to make my own site with that aim. It took me a year or so to learn php programming and to figure out how to make a site look ok and work well. If you want to see the results, go to these 2 sites : http://www.atanata.com and http://www.atanata.net

Anyway, this is not the point :-)

I know some of you are interested in having their works sold on the internet. I myself am interested in finding such a service. Net4music used to do it, but not anymore, and as far as I could find there's no other similar site to replace it.

Therefore, this weekend I thought of a solution. Here it is.

Using the building blocks of the store I already made to sell independent CDs, I could easily set up another site designed to sell sheet music, or other music materials.
My goal is to offer another service to independent musicians/composers. I'm all into that and my main interest is to show that we can survive on our own without being dependent on big publishers/record companies.

I could offer you:
- an artist/composer page where you introduce yourself and your works,
- a picture of you or whoever (!),
- all your compositions for sale on PDF files,
- you'd be free to fix the sale price and the threshold at which you'd like to be paid,
- your works would be categorized by style or by instruments (solo piece, 2 parts, orchestral,...) and by location,
- a shopping cart will be available on our site + links on your website,
- possibility to redirect to your site and to your email,
- customer reviews of the works.

In the near future, there could be :
- audio samples of your works,
- protected PDF files (ie allows printing for a number of times, time-limited files,...)
- distributing a hard copy of your works.
- other things YOU'd think of and YOU'd like to have implemented,

In return, I propose:
- a small one-time fee (5-10 EUR?) for each work you want to be sold (the price could vary depending on the number of pages,)
- a commission would be taken for each work sold. Somewhere in between 20-40% of the sale price (before tax).

Once again, this is just a suggestion.
Our store is already setup for CDs and we already have a team that could take care of this site in addition.
We all have other jobs (music related or not) and we do this in our free time to try to offer one of the best indie music services on the web.

Let me know if you're interested and what you'd like to have (or not) on YOUR site. Be honest, be rude, just say what you want. I can take it and the main goal is to provide the service we're all looking for.

Vincent
