What version of Sibelius are you guys talking about?

My experience is mainly with v1.4 and Windows NT. I understand there have been some significant improvements since then. For instance I notice that, as of 2.1, you can now move ending brackets vertically if they span multiple systems. However, you can still not adjust them *independently* if they span more than two systems -- the brackets which are not on the same system as the opening "hook" all move together.

For example, articulations can be easily grabbed & moved *vertically*.

That's good to know. In 1.4, they could not be moved at all.

Sibelius does not let you move them horizontally from their centered position, but why would you want to?

I can think of dozens of possible instances where this would be useful. I move articulations horizontally in Finale all the time. It's this kind of omnipresent "why would you want to do *that*?" attitude, exemplified by the Sibelius development team, that really put me off both the program and company.

BTW, in my Sibelius manual (Version 2), articulations are discussed on pp.129 ff. I think many of your concerns may be with an older > version!

Yes, many are, but many remain, as well. For instance (going back to ending brackets), it's idiotic that these don't show pre-aligned according your specifications, as they do in Finale. They show up wherever you click, and you then have to drag them into position and align them yourself. By default, normally you would want ending brackets aligned with, you know, *barlines*, instead of just showing up any old place. But Sibelius treats ending brackets as a "line" -- the equivalent of Finale's Smart Shapes. Very kludgy.

And Sibelius's Macintosh performance remains abysmal.
