I recently had a FireWire port destroyed by a faulty cable -- seems to be a not-uncommon problem, and because the FireWire chip is on the logic board, quite an expensive one. I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and also if anybody knows whether more recent Macs have some kind of protection built in that was absent in earlier models -- I'm hoping to avoid this happening again.
