The ones I use are not GM. Does your soundcard require it, or can you use a
RAM- or disk-based player? And does the new Finale allow access to an
external soundfont player?

If you can use a multi-font RAM- or disk-based player (sfz+ is a good
RAM-based player under Windows, with disk streaming to come in the next
version) and the new Finale allows it, then the possibility of choosing
individual fonts for each instrument is available. I pick the instrument I
like best for a part; I have about 300 soundfonts so I can build a specific
orchestra this way.

You can have a look at http://www.hammersound.net/hs_sounds.html These
are free, and some are quite good.

The Symphony Hall Orchestra (about 30MB) is a GM soundfont that used to be
available at thesoundsite.net, but that site has disappeared. Perhaps you
can find it in a web search.
