Dear Hal,
Since Quicktime 5 you can use a soundfont file as a source for the Quicktime
Instruments feature. The files has to be put in the Extensions folder in the
Quicktime folder. Use the control panel to choose the file you want to play
with. I think you have to restart first.

In Mac OS X, there is a folder called Banks where you put all your
sondfonts.

So there is no secret on the new feature of Finale.

And of course you can use Pipe Organ sounds, I happen to have some very
good. There is no need for specialized soft.
