Are you accidentally running the old Finale 2004 (not 2004b)? The file associations are still mapped to the old version if you have not yet deleted it, so clicking on a file created before the "b" update will use the wrong version. I have found that running the older version of FinMac2004 after the update has been applied will throw out your 2004b preferences.
