Noone will ever guarantee you that software x will run on a new machine in x years.
We're also talking about the same machine, after a HD crash, for instance.
That is already no problem, at least on the Mac. I know because I had that problem (well not a crash, but I changed my HD, and the same authorization still worked).
As for the PC side, I am not sure. It'S not impossible that they are using the HD serial.
