My apologies to the list for the very strange posts the last two days. I
seem to be having a problem accessing my normal e-mail server from my
school (work) network. The security settings must have changed. Darned
techno-Nazis :-) This is a re-post of yesterday's lost one.

Scorch functions normally for me. AFAIK I have the most recent version
installed. There is a current problem with being able to save (provided
the one who posted the file enabled the save option) but Sibelius is
aware of it and a correction is expected soon.

I have it installed in both IE and Firefox. The Firefox installation
requires a little bit of effort (gotta find the correct folder) but the
IE one is automatic from the download on.

FWIW, I have several Scorch files on my website
(http://www.rgsmithmusic.com <http://www.rgsmithmusic.com/> ). Some are
set to allow saving and printing as well as transposition. Those are
mostly on the free page and there is no charge for them.
http://www.rgsmithmusic.com/Free_music.htm
<http://www.rgsmithmusic.com/Free_music.htm> Others are on pages where
music is offered for sale and they are merely for viewing. No saving or
printing is permitted. For security reasons, I am moving toward not
using Scorch for music for sale. I will simply post a .PDF and an MP3.
It's not as elegant a solution but more secure. I would like to see a
music XML solution. What a great idea!

For student exercises and assignments, Scorch is really useful. I have
also used it extensively on the theory pages of my horn studio website
(http://horn.rgsmithmusic.com/ <http://horn.rgsmithmusic.com/> ) and to
publish the fingering chart. It's too bad MM is no longer makeing a
similar function available to the average Finale user.

There is no option at all in the installation process for FinaleViewer
to use any browser at all, it seems only to look for and install for
IE."

trying to install Scorch in the latest version of Firefox. And when
installing it on IE6, the installer when completely nuts and started
endless instances of itself.

IMO, neither a Finale nor Sibelius viewer is a good alternative for the
end user. A MusicXML viewer (with font inclusion) is one thing that
would make sense, another would be a SVG solution with playback. The
Sibelius music I looked at yesterday looked so bad that virtually
nothing would be lost in a conversion to a generic format.
