Martin,
There's actually no uncertainty at all. Finale works. MS Office works.
OS X 10.6 comes with all common printer drivers, surely including HP.
Your MIDI interface is plug-and-play -- it doesn't require M-Audio
drivers so it works -- see here:

Looks like with all the uncertainty about compatibility between Mac
Snow Leopard and Finale 2008, M-Audio Midisport 2x2 midi interface,
my HP laserjet printer and Microsoft Office, I guess I'll be staying
with Mac OS 10.5.8. At least this way I know everything works!

It's Avid/Digidesign. I wouldn't expect it anytime soon. It took them
8 months to get ProTools and drivers "certified" to work on 10.5.
Hopefully it won't be that long but you never know.

No driver available yet for the M-Audio Key-Rig 49, which connects

Will not work.
Preferences->AudioMiDI
Select IAC Driver instead of of Key-Rig 49.
Key-Rig 49 works.
