i'm about to score a piece that is made up of a number of miniatures with a range of notational approaches: from "traditional" to proportional notation to text/event scores to a "mobile" format for one section (trad. elements in various shapes spread around the page).

because it is very important in this piece to have proper control over the typography and also because of the graphic needs i will export the notation elements from finale and use indesign to import them and do much of the text (using styles to ensure consistent behaviour) and graphics.

i remember reading a post by james ingram years ago who mentioned he did "placeholder texts" in finale to know how to space the notation and then replaced them in the graphics programme he was using (freehand, or something similar, i believe). is there a way to export from finale so that the text is editable using indesign (or illustrator)? or am i stuck masking it or erasing it in the graphics programme?

any suggestions for export format from finale or other things to take into consideration? so far i am planning:

- finale score at "real size", no resizing shoud be needed in graphics programme - each miniature (section) on a single page all of the same size (to facilitate exporting), even if it leaves massive white space - leave a 1mm (or other small constant) margin between left and top page edges and music, for precise placement in indesign - export pages (not selections) from finale in EPS (include tiff preview, include fonts, allow transparency)
- link (not embed) the graphics in indesign
- use a 2nd layer in indesign for new text to mask finale text (not erase, which might affect linked files?) and a 3rd for graphics

cheers, any help or suggestions greatly appreciated
