Yes, that's the approach I do now (the replace X against Y wouldn't work for me, unless I use really small regions all the time). It feels like it's an extra step to first define a metatool to then use it for the double-press and then never use the same metatool again. I'll send in a feature request to add a "switch to Y" to the context menu for the objects.
