Actually the ensemble led by Glenn Miller was the Glenn Miller
Orchestra. (Two "n"s. That's just something you have to know, like
there being no "e" in Arron Copland.)
And Glenn didn't "front" the band (depending on your definition of
"front," of course). He led the band, organized and managed it, and
played as a soloist and as one of the guys, and from what I've read was
a pretty strict taskmaster. Lawrence Welk "fronted" a band!

What I meant was that Duke's large ensemble was often billed
as "The Duke Ellington Orchestra" and not the "Duke
Ellington Band."
