And Glenn didn't "front" the band (depending on your definition of
"front," of course). He led the band, organized and managed it,
and played as a soloist and as one of the guys, and from what I've
read was a pretty strict taskmaster. Lawrence Welk "fronted" a band!
I think you might have "Arred" in the spelling of Copland's first
name. 8-)
And please don't forget that Glenn Miller was one heck of an arranger
as well. That little tidbit tends to be forgotten among all the
"front man" details that the press get so obsessed with.
