Yes, point well taken. In my particular case, these are symphony players who will have had the music in advance but may or may not have looked at it. I decided to go with the note plus diamond notation as the most explicit.

This is, by the way, for some editing I'm doing on a piece where the composer's notation is blatantly wrong. He has indicated these harmonics by putting the regular notehead at the sounding pitch, with the diamond a fourth above that!
