Hi Jef, If I've understood you correctly, by 1) you mean an actual rimshot (rim and drum head hit simultaneously), and by 2) you mean a cross-stick (the tip of stick is placed on edge of head ,shaft of the stick is struck against opposite rip, creating a woody "click" sound.
