Hi Jef,

I think we're talking past each other -- your "2) LH holds stick tip on skin 
and strikes hoop with same stick's shank" is a cross-stick.

That is identical as what I described: "the tip of stick is placed on edge of 
head, shaft of the [same] stick is struck against opposite rim, creating a 
woody "click" sound."

So, to reiterate:

1) is a "rim shot"
2) is a "cross-stick" 

Both terms are ubiquitous and the difference between them is well-understood.

3) I would probably call a "two-stick rim shot."
