Yes -- there are always "but ifs" that make certain workarounds not good in all situations, but for what he was asking about in the original message, my suggestion would work fine. I didn't get into the issue of having fermatas match vertically all the components -- he wasn't asking about that issue, just about how to make life simpler doing what he was trying to do, and my solution would do just that. -- David H.
