i am building my template from scratch in Finale
2012 (tedious work to say the least) and in the
FAN (prog-options/edit/font annotation) i can't
access the character for the quarter notehead in
my custom font (works fine in 2012).

in the notes and rests (doc options) symbol
selection, my quarter/eighth notehead appears in
slot #207 in F2010, but in slot #256 in 2012.

however, since the FAN (prog-opts/edit/font
annotation) symbol selection palette only shows
256 characters (slots #0-255 = 256 total; in both
2010 and 2012), i can't access my character, as
sits in the 257th slot. in the note/rest
selection palette there are 270 slots (slots
#0-269) visible.

F2012 on left, 2012 on right:

does this mean i will need to redesign my fonts
in order for anything to do with FANs to work in
2012 ?!?!?! i see the notehead appears in the Ï
(I with diearesis) in 2012 but in the ¦ (oe) slot
in 2010... in both cases this is slot # 207.

can anyone explain what i don't get here? i
think i understand it has to do with how the
programme accesses the characters, but something
in my brain is blocked on this.
