that is a big fat suckorama.

i dumped my FANs from 2012 in the 2012 Font Annotation folder. F2012
reads these FANs but seemingly not for characters whose position has
"changed". in those cases, the bounding rectangle is reset to the
font reference line. so engraver slurs and articulations appear much
further away from the notehead than they are supposed to.

for some of the errors i can correct them manually (serious pain in
the ass...) but for the 14 characters outside the 256-slot selection
palette (all my rests, the quarter notehead and a few others)... i'm
not sure what to do. also, once i edit them and try to save, i am
asked to create a new file. this new file is not Unix Executable (as
in 2012) and therefore openable using Terminal, but rather in some
unknown ("Document" icon) format.

is there a way to edit FANs outside finale? i can open them with
textedit but get only the header.
