One way to solve your music spacing issue is to have Automatic Music
Spacing turned on. To do that, go to the Edit menu, then Preferences,
then select Edit from the left-hand column. In the panel on the right
you can turn on or off Automatic Update Layout (I keep it turned on
while others on this list keep it turned off) and Automatic Music
Spacing (I keep that turned on.)

I believe that the Automatic Music Spacing isn't always apparent and
that sometimes you need to use the Speedy Entry tool and click in that
measure, then exit speedy entry and when that is done the proper spacing
will occur.

If that doesn't work as you wish, then you can manually apply music
spacing by going to the Utility menu and selecting Music Spacing, then
select the kind of Music Spacing you want.
