Wow -- you're right, and I stand corrected.

I just did a test whereby I copied a .mus file into the system32 folder,
and it shows up just fine in Windows Explorer but it does not show in
the File/Open dialog in Finale 2014.5.

I just ran another test and I saved a file from within Finale to the
System32 folder and it does not show up in Explorer but it does show up
in the Finale File/Open dialog.

I just ran yet another test saving as a .mus instead of a .musx and the
same behavior is exhibited.

So the behavior is exactly opposite from each other depending on whether
there is a Finale file copied into the System32 folder using Windows
Explorer or whether it is saved into the System32 from within Finale.

That is very bizarre -- yet another example of the developers of Finale
not quite spending enough time (for whatever reason -- it may not be
their fault) to make sure this all works together properly. As to why
Finale would randomly put files into that folder, that's anybody's guess
and while the file displaying issue may be partly Microsoft's fault,
having Finale randomly change folders to save files into, going contrary
to the Folders settings in Preferences is entirely the Finale
developers' fault.
