that's odd. in my place, "sudo fink install silc-client" started installation successfully.

i hsve unstable/crypto in fink.conf. i have removed (to the best of my knowledge sw and reinstalled with the 10.2.* package, made the .cshrc and followsd all the instructions i've found.

shells have been quit and restarted, and i have no interest at least at this point in any package other than silc-client.
i've been off of silc for weeks now til someone gave me silc access a couple days ago.

i'm issuing the install silc-client from home dir given the .cshrc.
just for confirmation, what version of Fink are you using now? did you update it with "sudo fink selfupdate"? or "sudo fink selfupdate-cvs" if you have CVS enabled?

should i issue the install silc-client somewhere in sw perhaps?
if you're already using Fink, getting it to work right would be the fastest solution.
