I'm trying to install xfree86 and it seems I have the same problem described in the following e-mail:

I've seen this problem before.  Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but
wasn't /etc/X11 an independent directory in XFree86 4.1, and is now a
symlink under 4.2
?

How do I go about resolving the situation?

Thanks in advance,
Ross Plotner
