/tmp (really /private/tmp) is hidden from Spotlight, I believe.  "ls
/tmp" should have shown something like

    fink-build-log-python25-2.5.4-1-<date>-<time>

though.  

You could try building in a new terminal window and use command-S to
save the text output as another option. 

In any case, when you get a log file, what you'll be looking for should
very likely be where it starts saying "error".
