I am not really willing to put that into CVS just now, we are already trying to stabilize a fairly major change there, and I want to get a new release out of fink eventually. That said, one could always make a branch for this if you think it's useful to do so.
Good idea, I will test a bootstrap install of fink with this to see how it goes.

Fair enough not to commit this to CVS right now, it potentially effects many packages. Anyway I understand a code freeze was declared to get the new version out so no reason why this cannot wait until the proper time can be dedicated to it.
