First of all I would like to apologize. I do not think that the maitainer meant any harm by introducing new splitoffs. I guess it was meant as a treat to those who wish to fainly grain the way their packages are being installed and what is being installed. However, in the future, might it be a better idea to ask users which version the want when there is a new splitoff? Instead of defaulting to the version with the same name as the one they have, even if it has a reduced feature set.
We do plan to ask out users a whole lot in the future. That is what I will be partly doing, requesting information from the users to make things even better for them. Until the proper infrastructure is in place we will simply have to go by our best guess and sometimes that means people are left out, like you were this time. I hope that does not cloud your opinion and that you would be willing to answer our questions in the future.
