There is not currently a way within fink to stick with the "point" distribution and get the new version of fink. I am working on a solution to this, but at the moment, a user who did a binary install can run 'fink selfupdate-cvs' which will update correctly to the latest stable fink. (Doing 'fink selfupdate-rsync' does not work initially, but can be done after the selfupdate-cvs if desired.)
