   I was trying to steer as close to the recommended package
splits documented at...

As for the BuildDepends being set to gcc4X, it would be trivial
for do go through the info files in cvs and bump those to
gcc4X-bin. 
  I am more concerned about getting it right so that this
never has to be dealt with again. MacPorts has a better approach
in some ways but seems to totally punt on the issue of info and manpages
(which they seem to just delete outright). I'll keep tinkering with
this (at least the idea of building gcc4X with --program-suffix=-fp-4.X
and creating the old program names as symlinks to these). Actually
if I did that, the manpage/infopage issue is solved since I can just
suffix those to not overlap. I'm not thrilled with the idea of fp
as a suffux those as it looks too much like floating point.
