First of all -- did you download the recent Developer Tools? Remember
that you can't go any further without that. If you have, then I'll
assume that you're still waiting to install xfree86-server (which you
downloaded earlier, according to a previous post).

Please execute the following command (copy it directly into terminal)
fink list | grep '^ i'

This will tell you which packages are installed on your system. You
need to have xfree86-base installed, which provides the base upon which
further Xfree86 software is built. If this is not present, I recommend
that you do

fink install xfree86-base

And this will give you the xfree86-base package. From here, you can
then do

fink install xfree86-rootless
or
fink install xfree86-server

to get yourself a full Xfree86 installation.

Remember, if you don't have the Developer Tools yet, none of this is
going to work. The reason you need Xfree86 to install gtk+ is because
gtk+ is like a higher-level layer, which can't function without the
foundation of xfree86.

If you want to take this one step at a time, just do "fink list |
grep '^ i' " and post the results, we can go step by step from there (do
not include the doublequotes).
