As others have said, this could get very bulky... It would be better for
this functionality to be integrated into an interface or use a pre-existing
interface. One that I know of (which can be used on Debian) is aptitude,
which offers a tree listing of packages installed, upgraded, not installed,
etc.

It would be easier, and cleaner, for this to be ported. However, it would
probably only work for the stable (binary) distribution at this point, as
it's a front-end to apt, which is what dselect is too. (In other other
words, I don't think it can build the source packages that the actual 'fink'
application can.)

I don't get the point of indicating whether a package is in unstable or
stable. If you have the unstable distribution enabled in your
PREFIX/etc/fink.conf file, then when you do a 'fink list', the only packages
that will show up are the latest (unstable packages), as it is almost
definite that if there's a package in stable, there will be the same (or
newer) package in unstable.

As long as 'fink list' reports the packages available for the distribution
you have chosen (stable or unstable), which I believe it does, then there
shouldn't be any problem...

Hope that explains things, do tell if I've misunderstood what you're trying
to say!
