In response to both helpful e-mails on this, I have the December 01 tools installed, which I believe are the latest, and I am running 10.1.3.
In response to which gcc I get: /usr/local/bin/gcc This could be from installing a package that has a later version of g77 (and includes gcc 3.1 ?) that is available at http://floyd.liunet.edu/~gkhanna/hpc.html If this is what is causing the problem how do I override it. Note that other packages have compiled just fine (including todays update to fink and dpkg, and in fact including several parts of lyx up till xdvi). It is just these two so far where the problem arises. Any help appreciated. -Roy M. >At 11:01 Uhr -0700 18.04.2002, Roy Mendelssohn wrote: >>In trying to install both hdf5 and lyx using fink (for lyx the >>error comes when installling xdvi) I get the following error: >> >>checking for gcc... gcc > >This looks wrong.
