You want me to believe that Apple sometimes installs gcc-3.3 as /usr/bin/gcc3? I'll believe it when I see it, i.e. when someone in that situation really shows me `/usr/bin/gcc3 -v` and `ls -l /usr/bin/*cc*`. I know the Apple guys are crazy, but I don't want to believe they are this crazy. I have no way to check this, on all machines I could get my hands on, gcc3 is gcc-3.1 and /usr/bin/gcc3 came in the same package as /usr/bin/gcc-3.3.
