[originally sent to fink-beginnners, but received no reply] hi,
i don't know zip about fink or macs, but seem to be responsible for my partner's powerbook (g4 12" running osx 10.3.9). maybe a year ago i installed fink and used it for something (x11, i think). it worked fine then. now she wants to install gimp. when i ran update i got errors about cvs conflicts. after removing some files (as instructed by the "in the way" cvs errors) i got the following error when i did an update (ie clicking on the green icon with a downwards pointing arrow in fink commander): [lots of cvs output] Reading package info... No package name in [... many similar lines] Failed: Error performing percent expansion: unknown % expansion or nesting too deep: "python%type_pkg[python]". at /sw/lib/perl5/Fink/Services.pm line 284. this is with > fink --version Package manager version: 0.17.1 Distribution version: 0.7.0.cvs looking for previous help with this problem, all i found was an email at http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=3200&style=flat&viewday=28&viewmonth=200406 which said "wipe /sw and start over". is that correct? if so, what happens to software previously installed with fink? does it get wiped too? if so, can i get a list of currently installed software so i know what to reinstall? alternatively, how do i fix the problem i have? thanks, andrew -- ` __ _ __ ___ ___| |_____ work web site: http://www.ctio.noao.edu/~andrew / _` / _/ _ \/ _ \ / / -_) personal web site: http://www.acooke.org/andrew \__,_\__\___/\___/_\_\___| list: http://www.acooke.org/andrew/compute.html ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by Oracle Space Sweepstakes Want to be the first software developer in space?
