Could someone elaborate on what is the problem and what is the solution? I had the same error as the original poster so I looked in /usr/local for something gmp. Grep found a gmp.h in /usr/local/include/ and so I used sudo mv to put this in my home directory. I tried to build gcc4.4 in fink and I get basically the same error message again. I installed gcc4.4 from http://hpc.sourceforge.net and I suspect this is the source of the problems, but I don't know how to carefully remove that gcc4.4 and not break other things.
