I did 'fink remove' on gcc43 and gcc43-shlibs.
I then tried to install and rebuild gcc44, but in either way leads to
the same errors:

The " error trying to exec 'cc1' " is a clue. Could it be that the
conflict is with gcc -3.4.4 under
/usr/local/libexec/gcc/powerpc-apple-darwin7.9.0/3.4.4/cc1 ?
