Package manager version: 0.29.10
Distribution version: selfupdate-rsync Sat Mar 13 10:24:52 2010, 10.5,
powerpc
Unstable enabled

In a misguided effort I used Carbon Copy Cloner (latest version) to
create a bootable HD from my existing install. I excluded a number of
files and directories, including the /sw directory. Following this
operation I discovered numerous permission-related problems.

With respect to Fink, a selfupdate now produces the following:

<snip>
Hit http://bindist.finkmirrors.net 10.5/current/crypto Release
Reading Package Lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /sw/var/lib/apt/lists/
_sw_fink_dists_local_main_binary-darwin-powerpc_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
### execution of /sw/bin/apt-get-lockwait failed, exit code 100

I have run scanpackages with no change.

An earlier post (from Alexander Hansen) suggested deleting the
scanpackages.db. I followed by scanpackages but get the same E:
messages. apt-get update of course produces the same E: responses.

Fink update works and I was able to install and later remove a package.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Stan
