Dear Alexander,

Your last email above, prompted me to look for ".Xauthority files in mac os
x"
in google.  I found that a number of problems, all related to not being able
to run X11, were solved by deleting the .Xauthority file.

In my case, the .Xauthority could not be read, by say emacs (the permissions
were ok).  It was old, from the last time I had used X11 with 10.5.8. Two
new files were in my home directory .Xauthority-c and .Xauthority-l.

I just deleted .Xauthority, .Xauthority-c, and .Xauthority-l and now
everything is perfect.
