This happens to me at *least* twice daily.

It's particularly frustrating in the new world of OS X where windows are not
as strongly tied to applications (i.e. Bringing a window front does not
bring all that app's windows forward.) It is counter-intuitive that I am
effectively punished for having a Fire window in the foreground when a new
message is received.

If new message windows are to come up behind other Fire windows, though (and
I argue that they should), it becomes important to indicate "unread message"
status. I personally would much rather have a count of hoe many unread
messages are pending than a count of online buddies on the dock icon.
