I found I have at most 5 convos at once.  With the tabbed ui, one window forward 
brought them all forward.  The Adium UI is excellent at showing me which convos have 
new text since I last looked at it.  It also shows user idle time and status in the 
same tab.

For me, it was MUCH cleaner than arranging 5 large windows all over the screen.  I 
could see my work, and the chat window, for ALL conversations, all at once.
