This is a question for the people currently working on the development of
Fire.

By the time OS 10.2 is released, do you expect that Fire will be able to use
your itools account for AIM? The latest beta build of the AIM client can use
your itools account (put in @mac.com). This is, however, useless for the
time being, because people on your Buddy list (windows AND mac) also have to
be using the latest beta build of the AIM client to talk with you. When I
log in as [EMAIL PROTECTED], I can only see about 10% of the people who are
really online. This obviously means that there's something in the
client-side that is required.
Is this something that Fire will be able to emulate (without starting
another patch/update war with AOL again)?
I have to say.. If it can't by the time ichat is released, that may be my
time to give up on Fire. I know I'm going to get a lot of grief for this...
But I originally started using fire in the public beta days because the AIM
client then was horrid. No features and huge unwieldy IM windows. The
support for the other protocols in Fire was icing on the cake. But now I'm
starting to feel the effects of having to change clients every time someone
wants to send me a file... or have a direct connection. But at least there
are alternatives to that... email, ftp. Things I don't have to change
clients to use. But now the AIM client is much improved (except for the big
windows), and I really like the idea of being able to use my itools account
on AIM, whether it's by AIM or ichat... Which I'm not yet convinced is going
to be so bad. The bubbles are ugly, but I hear that you can turn them off.
I'll have to see some of the other features.
Anyway, I know Fire won't be supporting AIM file transfer or direct
connections anytime soon, but what about itools accounts?
