There is no problem when a stored procedures returns data to be easily usable. Normalization is not the most important fact in stored procedures result. I understand that is a bit weird to have the end data defined to the .9999 seconds, but it's the max. Firebird precision. If precision increases, it would be increased too, of course. Not returning this output parameter would make user's life only difficult for no good.
