I actually have this exact same problem. If anyone can provide any assistance it will be greatly appreciated. I had firebug installed successfully at one point and then got the error message from gmail about firebug slowing performance. I had since made the mods recommended by google, but had not used firebug in some time. I have now had a reason to use it and it seems that nothing is responding, but I cannot even get the windows to open. Oddly enough, I have re- installed firefox, firebug and all other plugins for firefox...but nothing seemed to change the impact of firebug running successfully again.
