Re-installing rarely fixes anything because Firefox reuses old configuration information. There are two sure-fire steps to solve this problem. 1. Install Firebug in a new Firefox profile. If this works, the problem was in your old profile. 2. Uninstall Firefox. Check that it really deleted the old installation files. Install Firefox.
