Re-installing rarely fixes anything because Firefox reuses old
configuration information.

There are two sure-fire steps to solve this problem.
1. Install Firebug in a new Firefox profile. If this works, the
problem was in your old profile.
2. Uninstall Firefox. Check that it really deleted the old
installation files. Install Firefox. If this works,the problem was in
old files in your Firefox installation.
