What is happening is, that something else in the page is changing while you inspect the table. And I suppose you have the HTML Panel<http://getfirebug.com/wiki/index.php/HTML_Panel>option *Scroll Changes Into View* checked, so the panel is scrolled there. Can you confirm that?
