FreeBSD is an outstanding operating system. As with any Unix, it is highly
configurable and easy to modify to serve whatever purpose you see fit. As far
as the FreeBSD vs. Linux debate (I know this will start an OS/flame war, but . .
.), FreeBSD outperforms linux in a number of areas (throughput, web performance,
name services, etc), but I can't find the stats to back this up at the moment
(they will follow).

The downfall of FreeBSD - not as many commercial apps (desktop or server) are
being ported to it. In this arena, Linux has enjoyed the benefits of being the
'golden boy' (at least for the moment).

Testimony to what I have said? Check out Yahoo! and HotMail - see what OS they
run.
